LOS ANGELES - No. 14 UC Santa Barbara (9-11, 0-2) failed to score in the first half of play and fell to No. 4 UCLA (15-4, 2-0) 8-2 on Saturday afternoon at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.

Despite not scoring in the first quarter of play, UCSB did protect its own goal by only allowing a single score to the potent Bruin offense. The second quarter proved differently for UCSB when it gave up three unanswered goals, and found itself without a goal and down by four headed into halftime.

UCLA held momentum in the third quarter, and once again posted three goals. UCSB also managed to find the back of the net in the third quarter when sophomore Matt Tilburg scored the first of his two goals on the match. The Poway, Calif. native was the only Gaucho to score in the match. The Gauchos and Bruins traded scores in the fourth, and UCLA went on to defeat UCSB by a count of 8-2.

Goalkeeper Rick Wright tallied 11 saves in goal for the Gauchos.

UCSB will continue action at UCSB's Campus Pool tomorrow when it hosts No. 1 USC in its home opener at 1:00 p.m.
