SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
UC Santa Barbara limited Pacific to a .170 hitting percentage and avenged an early-season loss to Tigers with a 31-29, 30-24, 30-25 victory at Robertson Gymnasium on Friday night.
UCSB, which improves to 13-11 overall and 8-9 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, was led by freshman hitter Evan Patak who had 12 kills and 15.5 points. Junior middle blocker Michael Kennedy contributed ten kills, 12.0 points, and a sizzling .412 hitting percentage. Kennedy also added three blocks.
As a team, the Gauchos hit just .232, but that was enough, as they held Pacific to a mere .170 hitting. The Tigers were paced by hitter Sean Rodgers who had 11 kills and hit .444. Brian Zodrow also had 11 kills, but he hit just .192 in the defeat.
Junior libero Aaron Mansfield had a match-high nine digs and freshman outside hitter Kawika Burdine had five kills and hit .833.
UCSB returns to action on Saturday night when it hosts Stanford at 7:00 p.m. in Robertson Gymnasium.
