PROVO, Utah - BYU outside hitters Jonathan Alleman and Fernando Pessoa led the Tigers with to a 30-26, 30-26, 30-21 win over UC Santa Barbara (10-7 overall, 6-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) Friday night.
Santa Barbara outside hitter Nate Wake had a team-high of 10 kills and five digs while Michael Kennedy added in nine kills. The Gauchos also received contributions from senior Justin Adams who had five kills, three digs and a match-high seven blocks assists total. Freshmen setter Bryan Berman accumulated 31 assists, two blocks and two services aces.
The Cougars, now 12-3 overall and 10-1 in MPSF, hit .400 as a team. Outside hitter Michael Burke also contributed with 10 kills and six blocks total, while setter Carlos Moreno assisted with match-high 39 assists. Libero Shawn Olmstead had four digs.
Next up for the UC Santa Barbara is Cal State Northridge on Mar. 10. From there, the Gauchos will bring it back home on Mar. 12 against IPFW.
