SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gauchos remain undefeated in Big West Conference play with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Pacific Saturday at UCSB's RecCen Courts. The Gauchos won the doubles point and split singles points with Pacific for the win.
UCSB began the match by winning the doubles point with a 9-8 victory by Alex Anselme and Mike Placek at No. 1 doubles. Matthew Coin and Nicholas Edlefsen also won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The Gauchos went ahead 2-0 with Mike Placek's 6-3, 6-3 win over Vladimir Zdravkovic at No. 3 singles. Pacific evened the score at 2-2 with wins at No. 2 and No. 1 singles. Nicholas Edlefsen put the Gauchos ahead 3-2 with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Tyler Black at No. 6 singles. Freshman Elad Stern decided the match (4-2) with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-0 win over Niclas Otte at No. 4 singles. Pacific scored the last point of the day at No. 5 singles.
UCSB moves to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the Big West. Pacific falls to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in Big West play.
The Gauchos continue their homestand with an April 7 match against St. Mary's. The match begins at 1:30 pm at the RecCen Courts.
