Santa Barbara, Calif. - Down 1-0 at halftime, the Los Angeles Galaxy rallied for two scores in the second half to defeat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 in front of over 3,000 fans at UC Santa Barbara's Harder Stadium. Former Gaucho All-American Memo Arzate graced the pitch at UCSB for the first time as a member of the Galaxy, creating two great scoring opportunities in nearing stoppage time.

Booked for an illegal tackle inside the penalty box in the 21st minute, Los Angeles' Ryan Suarez set up the Earthquakes only goal of the night. San Jose's Dwayne De Rosario was awarded a penalty kick and blasted into the left side of the net past the Galaxy's Dan Popik.

Los Angeles evened the score less than five minutes into the second half when 2003 NCAA scoring champion and first round draft pick Joseph Ngwenya fed Arturo Torres at the top of the box on the right side. Torres quickly pulled the trigger beating the Quake keeper Pat Onstad high and to the left.

Nearly 35 minutes went by with the score knotted at 1-1 until Austrian International superstar Andreas Herzog dished a perfect clearing pass over the Earthquakes defense and onto the foot of the defending MLS scoring champion Carlos Ruiz. Ruiz took the ball in stride and carried it across the top of the box from left the right pulling Onstad off of his line. The Guatemala City native faked a shot low causing Onstad to go to the ground before chipping the San Jose keeper for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Arzate did not enter the match until late in the second half, replacing Ruiz and playing just over five minutes. However, the two-time All-American did not disappoint his former home crowd that surpassed the 3,000 mark. In the five minutes, Arzate created two excellent scoring opportunities, his first was a dish through his defender's legs to Alejandro Moreno who missed just wide to the right. The former Gaucho then found the foot of a streaking Herzog at the top of the box the ended up going wide left just before time expired.
