Men's Soccer Shuts Out Centenary College, 2-0

UC Santa Barbara ended its five game losing streak on Friday night at Harder Stadium win a 2-0 victory over Centenary College. The Gauchos improve to 4-6, while the Gents fall to 2-6.

The Gauchos dominated the tempo of the match from the first minute. In the first half, UCSB outshot the Gents 16-2. Senior Thiago Martins shot three of his team leading five shots in the period. Midfielder Matt Kubota scored his first goal of the season in the 28th minute assisted by Martins and midfielder Darren Doi. Three minutes later, the Gauchos struck again on a corner kick by Doi to Jaime Ambriz, who scored his third goal of the season. Sophomore Sean Edwards assisted on the goal.

UCSB maintained its edge through out the second half, keeping the Gents scoreless and earning the third Gaucho shutout of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Erik Stolhandske notched his second win on the year while recording five saves.

Overall, the Gauchos outshot the Gents 26-9. UCSB also edged Centenary in corner kicks, 11-3.

The Gauchos will be back in action on Sunday, October 1 against Sacramento State in a 2:00 p.m. matchup at Harder Stadium.
