Ambriz Leads Men's Soccer In 4-0 Season-Opening Victory Over Valparaiso

Sept. 1, 2000

Box Score

Santa Barbara, Calif. - With a strong two-way showing, UC Santa Barbara's men's soccer team won its season opener by a score of 4-0 over Valparaiso University Friday night at Harder Stadium. With the win, the Gauchos move to 1-0 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 0-1.

UCSB was led by junior forward Jaime Ambriz. Ambriz scored two goals in the match before an injury caused him to exit in the sixtieth minute. Freshman defender Kevin Maffris also recorded a goal, while senior defender A.J. Albertalli added the Gauchos' final tally in the eighty-fifth minute.

Defensively, the Gauchos limited Valpo to four shots on goal and senior goalkeeper Trent Ulicny recorded his first shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. However, Ulicny was never truly challenged and notched only one save.

The Gauchos return to action Sunday, September 3 at San Jose State.
