SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Continuing to make improvements to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, the UC Santa Barbara baseball program has added a new state-of-the-art hitting facility, which will be completed and ready for use in July.
Located between the first base line fence and Campus Diamond (UCSB's softball field), the all-weather facility will give athletes the opportunity to practice during inclement weather and at night. While rain is rarely an issue in Santa Barbara, Caesar Uyesaka did not have covered batting cages prior to the start of this project and the Gauchos had nowhere to practice during bad weather.
"We are very excited about this new addition to our field," head coach Bob Brontsema said. "We now have a first-class facility that will not be affected by the rain. It will also give our guys the opportunity to get in some extra work around their class schedules."
The batting facility is the latest of several recent renovations/additions at Caesar Uyesaka. Prior to the start of the 2006 season, UCSB put in a brand new scoreboard in left field. The most recent upgrade is new locker room facility located just off the home dugout on the third base side. The 1,600 square foot structure, which provides spacious dressing rooms for Gaucho athletes and coaches, is complete with a coach's lounge, 34 lockers, player restrooms, and showers.
