ANTEATERS AT CAL POLY, CAL STATE FULLERTON: The UC Irvine men's soccer team (5-2-3, 0-1-1) will be on the road for a pair of Big West games this week as they travel to San Luis Obispo Wednesday to face Cal Poly at 7:00 p.m. at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. The team will then return to Orange County Saturday to face Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. at Titan Stadium.

ANTEATERS ON BIGWEST.TV PAY PER VIEW: UCI's match at Cal State Fullerton Saturday will be broadcast over the internet on BigWest.tv on a pay-per-view basis for $4.95.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Mustangs are 6-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Big West heading into Wednesday's match. Daniel Cumming leads Cal Poly with 10 points on the year. Keeper Eric Branagan-Franco has a 0.75 goals against average and five shutouts on the year. The `Eaters lead the all-time series with the Mustangs 10-9-4.

 

The Titans are 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Big West play entering the week. Cal State Fullerton has htree players tied for the team lead with four points each. Keeper Brent Douglas has a 0.47 goals against average and three shutouts. The Titans lead the all-time series 16-13-6, though UCI has won six in a row and hasn't lost to the Titans since 1999.


WEEK IN REVIEW: The Anteaters tied Cal State Northridge 1-1 and lost 4-0 at UC Santa Barbara on the opening week of Big West play. Freshman Corey Attaway had UCI's goal in the match against the Matadors. Junior keeper Greg Larson had nine saves on the week.


PRE-SEASON ALL-AMERICAN Matt Murphy: Junior midfielder Matt Murphy has been named Pre-Season Third Team All-America by College Soccer News. Murphy was the Big West Midfielder of the Year in 2006 after leading the Anteaters with 25 points.

Murphy has 46 points, 18 goals, 10 assists and seven game-winning goals in his career.


ANTEATER LEADERS: Matt Murphy leads the team with 11 points on the year. Freshman Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) and freshman Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) are tied for second with five points. Keeper Pat Barton has 26 saves and a 0.81 goals against average and three shutouts. Keeper Greg Larson has a 1.46 goals against average and one shutout.

 

UCI RECORD BOOKS: Matt Murphy is ninth all-time at UCI with 46 career points. He is ninth in goals with 18 in his career and is tied for third in career game-winning goals with seven.  

 

HEAD COACH George Kuntz: The Anteaters are led by head coach George Kuntz who is in his 13th year at the UCI helm. Kuntz was named NSCAA Far West Region Coach of the Year in 2006 and has been named the conference Coach of the Year in three of the past seven years including in 2006.
