UCI improves to 3-0 with win over Roadrunners

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 20 UC Irvine men's soccer team (3-0) defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-0 Monday night in non-conference play at Anteater Stadium.

 

The Anteaters got on the board in the 28th minute as junior Shane Westbrook took a corner kick that junior David Sias headed at keeper Steve Trojanowski who knocked it back to senior Brandon Foster who knocked in his first career goal. Freshman Spencer Thompson picked up his first career goal in the 74th minute as he took a ball down the right side from junior Rafael Macedo and scored from 18 yards out. The Anteaters went up 3-0 at the 76:00 mark as freshman Amani Walker scored his second goal of the season as sophomore Kevin Santora sent the ball into the left side of the box to Westbrook who crossed it to Walker on the right side.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Pat Barton earned his third straight shutout of the season as he picked up six saves in the match. Keeper Steve Trojanowski had four saves for the Roadrunners.

 

The Anteaters will return to action Friday night as they host Sacramento State in the second match of a doubleheader with the UCI women's team. The match is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
