Jones Earns ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
Nov. 8, 2007
SAN MARCOS - Texas State junior middle blocker Emily Jones was recognized as one of seven members named to the ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball Second Team for the University level of District Six on Thursday for her combined achievements on the court and in the classroom. Jones carries a 3.91 GPA in Mathematics while also ranking second in the Southland Conference in blocks per game with a 1.40 average. She has also contributed offensively with a 2.57 kills per game average that ranks fifth on the Bobcats. "It feels pretty good to be honored with people from schools like Rice, Texas and Oklahoma that are so well-known nationally," Jones said. "Mathematics is difficult and takes a lot of work, but it comes natural for me." District Six includes all universities in the states of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana regardless of conference affiliation, as players from the Big 12, SEC, Conference-USA and the Southland Conference were also honored. Lamar's Molli Abel and Adrianne Meengs were the only other players from SLC schools honored, as Abel joined Jones on the second team while Meengs made the third team. "It's nice to see the recognition for Texas State and for someone like Emily," Head Coach Karen Chisum said. "She's the epitome of a student-athlete as someone who works hard both on and off the court." Jones and the Bobcats close out the regular season at Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin this weekend. The 2007 Southland Conference Tournament will be held November 16-18 in San Antonio.
