SAN ANTONIO - Texas State opened play at the UTSA Fall Invitational with a split of singles matches while losing its lone doubles competition Friday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Texas State suffered a 1-0 loss to Laredo Community College in a three-match doubles event. The Bobcats went on to defeat St. Edward's 5-1 and lost to New Mexico State 5-1.

Bobcat freshman Christina Amo won both her singles matches and teamed up with Jana Cucciniello for an 8-1 win over LCC's Triana Palacios and Samantha Jackson for a Friday sweep. Amo defeated St. Edward's Laura Paige 6-0, 6-4 then posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over New Mexico State's Violaine Rollet in two, No. 4 singles matches.

Texas State's Ashley Ellis scored a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over St. Edward's Andrea Adamson at No. 1 singles while Sumarie Muller posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win over Allison Paris at No. 3 singles to highlight the Bobcats' 5-1 win over the Hilltoppers. Cucciniello defeated Janelle Otero 6-2, 6-1 while Natalie McLeod beat Many Salazar at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Texas State will take on host UTSA in doubles action (11 a.m.) and meet Tarleton State in singles action (1:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
