LUBBOCK - Texas State's Ashley Ellis, Lainy Chafitz, Leja Sirola and Sumarie Muller all advanced to the semifinal round of the Red Raider Shootout Friday.

Ellis, playing in Flight A Singles defeated UTEP's Katherine Palider 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) then downed Texas-San Antonio's Karen Schida in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Ellis will play Texas Tech's Tara Browning in an early Saturday semifinal match. Browning defeated Texas State's Christina Amo 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round.

Sirola advanced to the semifinals of Flight B with a 7-5, 6-4 win over UTSA's Monica Drabkova then posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over North Texas' Aziza Aba Butain. Sirola will take on Texas State freshman Lainy Chafitz in Saturday's semifinals. Chafitz opened tournament play with a 6-3, 6-7 (10-7) win over Air Force's Lauren Wilson then escaped with a three-set win over host Texas Tech's Janet Durham 1-6, 7-5 (11-9).

Also advancing in singles consolation play for Texas State was Jana Cucciniello and Natalie McLeod. In Flight C Singles Sumarie Muller scored a 2-6, 7-5 (10-8) win over Sandra Vucic and a withdrawal sends her to Saturday's semifinals to take on North Texas' Sammie Moreton.

In Flight Red Doubles, Amo and Chafitz won their opening round match to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals for doubles while Muller and Ellis advanced to the Flight Black Doubles semifinals.
