SAN MARCOS, Texas - Western Michigan University assistant soccer Coach Megan Ramey was named as the new Bobcat assistant soccer coach, Texas State's Head Soccer Coach Kat Conner announced Monday afternoon.

Ramey replaces Reta Derouin who stepped down after three seasons to pursue a career in the private sector.

"Megan has had the privilege of working with good programs and learning from great mentors," said Conner. "She will be able to bring a new perspective and new ideas to this program."

During her playing days, Ramey was a four-year starter at Western Michigan where she was named team captain, earned team MVP honors and was a First-Team All-Conference selection.

As an assistant coach at Western Michigan, Ramey trained goalkeepers, helped plan practices and recruited student athletes. One of Ramey's main responsibilities at Texas State will be to train and recruit goalkeepers. During her stint at WMU, Ramey also coached at the club level. She served as the Under-16 TKO head coach.

Ramey began her coaching career by working various soccer camps before she entered college. She started by serving as the assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer for three seasons at the Pacesetter Soccer Club. Over the course of the past six seasons, she has also served as a goalkeeper coach at the Western Michigan, Indiana University and Middle States of America Soccer Camps as well as the Joe Macknik's No.1 Goalkeeper Camp.

Texas State soccer ended the 2004 regular season in second place and went on to win the Southland Conference Tournament, earning a bid to the NCAA tournament for the second time in the team's six-year history.
