CenturyTel Bobcat Classic Begins Monday
March 30, 2007 SAN MARCOS - In the final tune-up prior to the Southland Conference Championship in a little over a week, Texas State University plays host to the CenturyTel Bobcat Classic Monday and Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle. The six-team tournament field includes two Southland Conference rivals - Lamar and Sam Houston State. Lamar was the tournament runner-up last year and a year earlier won the team championship. Therese Nillson, who tied for third last year, and Hillary Zeigler, who posted a fifth-place finish in 2005, both return for the Cardinals. Texas State senior Anessa Thompson has been the Bobcats' top golfer this season. She is averaging 78.37 strokes per round and has three, top-10 performances to her credit. Sophomore Christine Brijalba has a 79.00 average and two top 10s this season. Rounding out the tournament field is St. Edward's University, McClennan Community College and Tyler Junior College. Two rounds are slated for Monday with Texas State's student-athletes teeing off beginning at 8 a.m. The Bobcats will also be apart of the first tee groups during the afternoon round which begins at 1 p.m. on Monday. The third round of the tournament is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Golf Notes: Texas State will also be the host institution for the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship April 9-11 at Horseshoe Bay Resort ... the men's team returns to action after a two-week layoff when they travel to the MTSU/Aldila Intercollegiate in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Monday and Tuesday ... the MTSU tournament is being played at the Old Fort Colf Club ... Texas State is also the host for the Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship which will be held April 16-18 at Comanche Trace Golf Club in Kerrville.
