PLANO - Texas State freshman Christine Brijalba has been named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. Brijalba shot a five-under par 139 to win the 18-team, Northern Illinois University Springlake Invitational held last week in Sebring, Fla.

The El Paso native was the only golfer in the 97-player field to finish under par as she won the tournament by five strokes. Brijalba was in third place after the first round (70) before firing a 69 during Saturday's final round.

The championship was the freshman's second of her career. She also won Texas-Pan American's Bronc Classic last fall.

Voting for the SLC's Golfer of the Week is conducted by the league's sports information directors and is released by the Southland Conference office each week.

Texas State returns to action March 20th when it opens play at the UTSA Rowdy Round-Up in Comfort.
