Texas State Ties for Ninth at NMSU
Oct. 17, 2007 2007 Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate Final Results LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Texas State had four golfers shoot in the 70s for the first time this week, elevating the team into a tie for a ninth-place finish at the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate held this week at New Mexico State. Bobcat freshman Linn Gustafsson shot a one-over par 73 Wednesday to finish with a three-round score of 73 and tie for eighth individually. It was the Ekero, Sweden, native's third, top 10 finish of the fall season. Also carding rounds in the 70s Wednesday was Christine Brijalba who shot a 78 to finish in a tie for 23rd (229) as well as Trinie Mortensen who also fired a 73 Wednesday to tie for 35th (232). Sehee Kim's 77 on Wednesday gave her a three-round score of 236, good for a tie for 51st. Texas State's 301 during Wednesday's final round was the fourth-best score of the day. The Bobcats finished with a three-round score of 920, tying Baylor. The `Cats were 18 strokes back of team champion Oklahoma who shot a 297 on Wednesday to finish with a 902 and win the tournament by four strokes. Idaho was second and UCA Davis was third. UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller shot a 71 on Wednesday to finish with a three-round score of 219 and capture individual titlist honors. Finishing a stroke back was teammate Bryana Gregory. Also on Wednesday, Golf World announced its third Women's College Coaches' Poll of the fall season and the Bobcats continue to receive votes. Texas State was one of 15 teams to have votes outside the top 25. Duke is No. 1 in the poll followed by UCLA and Southern Cal. Texas State returns to action Nov. 4-5 when the Bobcats play host to the Challenge at Wolfdancer in Bastrop.
