'Cats Look to Extend 2-0 Conference Start
Jan. 12, 2005 After sweeping a pair of road games to open Southland Conference play, the Texas State women will be looking extend their quick start tonight when they play host to Nicholls State. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats (5-8, 2-0) defeated McNeese State and Lamar on the road last week for its first back-to-back wins of the season. Tonight the `Cats take on a Nicholls State squad which is 3-10 overall and lost its first two league games by a combined five points. Nicholls State senior forward Nkechi Nwachukwu is averaging 10.5 points and 5.7 rebounds to lead the Lady Colonels who are under first-year coach Mark Cook. Texas State senior post player Tori Talbert averaged a double-double in the Bobcats' opening week of conference play and for the year is averaging 19.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. She will be honored right before the men's game tonight for breaking the school record for career rebounds on the road earlier this season. Talbert currently has registered 1,027 rebounds. She has also gone over the 1,500-point plateau and has scored 1,547 career points. Tonight's game actually marks Texas State's first at home since December 6th. The `Cats have played their last six on the road, going 3-3 over the stretch.
