DENTON - Tyler Barnes-Wolf fired a one-over par 73 to lead five Texas State golfers Monday in the opening round of the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic at Lantana Country Club in Denton.

Barnes-Wolf went out in 39 before regrouping on the back nine for a two-under par 34, leaving the junior from Lake Forest, Ill., tied for 22nd place overall.

Missouri State's Matt Sullivan is in a four-way first-place tie with Jordan Mason of Washington State and Houston Cougar golfers Jordan Irwin and Pablo Acuna at four-under. Irwin had the low nine-hole score of the day, shooting 32 on the back-nine to go with a front-nine 36 to lead the tournament at 68.

Washington State currently sits atop the team standings with a team score of 283, with Missouri State trailing by four in second place. Oral Robersts sits third at 288, while Houston and New Orleans are tied for fourth at 289.

Play continues Tuesday in Denton, and the Bobcats are out of action until Sept. 23-26 in the four-day McNeese State tournament in Lake Charles, La.
