Bobcats Move to Full Pads
March 23, 2007 SAN MARCOS - Texas State wrapped up the first week of spring football drills with its initial practice in full pads Friday. The workout included an emphasis on disciple as the Bobcats went through additional conditioning following mental breakdowns that could have led to 15-yard penalties on game nights. "The one thing they have to understand is their actions affect the whole team and that's just not the way it is going to be," said Texas State first-year coach Brad Wright of excessive celebrations and taunting. "Like I told them on the field, and I think they are going to figure out pretty soon, that I am serious about that. We are going to act right and we are going to play hard. If you can do those to things on a football field, you have a chance to be successful." The Bobcats worked out in light gear and helmets Monday and Tuesday before donning shoulder pads for Thursday's workout. Friday's practice was the first with full contact and the squad ended the session with a couple periods of team scrimmaging. "It was fun. This is what being a coach is all about," Wright said. "They are going to learn what is expected of them. It's all part of a learning process. After four days, I think we have a chance of being a pretty good football team." "There have been a few bumps in the road but that is going to be anywhere you are. We are going to get over the bumps. We are going to do the things that it takes to be a good football team." Texas State returns to the practice filed for workouts Monday and Tuesday as well as Friday. Practices during the week are slated for 4 p.m. The Bobcats will also workout next Saturday at 1. Spring drills will be capped by the Maroon and Gold Game on April 14.
