HAMMOND, La. - Southeastern Louisiana forward Ricky Woods scored 15 points as the Lions defeated Texas State 66-46 Monday at the University Center.

With the win, Southeastern Louisiana improved to 12-11 and evened its Southland Conference record at 6-6. Texas State dropped to 2-20 overall and 0-11 in SLC play. The Bobcats return to Strahan Coliseum Saturday to play host to I-35 rival Texas-San Antonio.

Woods was 11-for-15 from the free throw line as Texas State was called for a season-high 28 fouls. Woods, the only player in the Southland Conference averaging a double-double, was held to just 2-of-6 shooting from the field but flourished at the line. He also had eight rebounds and three assists.

Texas State got into first-half foul trouble as both Charles Dotson and Jushay Rockett picked up their third personals in the half. Both players would be whistled for their fourth fouls early in the second period but would be called off the bench after a Bobcat scoring drought allowed Southeastern Louisiana to build a 37-33 lead with 11:48 to play.

Texas State went better than five minutes without a field goal as the Lions scored nine straight points to first take then stretch out a lead. Lance Burroughs would break the scoreless spell with a mid-range jumper at the 11 minute mark but the Lions answered at the other end with a follow shot by Thomas Woods. SLU would go on to stretch out their lead to 12, 49-37.

Only Rockett would foul out (at the 8:44 mark). Chris Langhorne would lead the Bobcats with 14 points while Dotson finished with 11. Texas State would turn the ball over 21 times, leading to 20 of the Lions' points.

Both Michael Cyprien and Chris Lee finished with 12 points for the Lions.

Southeastern Louisiana began the game by missing its first five shots and also had an early turnover as Texas State scored the game's first five points. The Bobcats would go on to expand on the early lead as the Lions' shooting woes continued. SLU made two of their first 13 shots as Texas State built an 11-4 advantage.

Texas State would lose their leading scorer to foul trouble midway through the first half. Dotson, who entered the game averaging close to 12 points per game, picked up his second foul less than four minutes into the game and was whistled for his third with 7:06 to play in the first half.

Southeastern Louisiana would come back to tie the game at 26-26 at the break as Woods took over late in the half. He rebounded a missed three-pointer by Quennell Green and was fouled on a slam dunk that pulled the Lions to within one, 26-25 with 32 seconds to play in the half. Woods would miss the ensuing free throw but Jonathan Walker would grab the offensive rebound and feed Woods who was fouled again, this time by Rockett. Woods would make the second of two free throws to tie the game with 27 seconds to play in the half.

The late foul was Rockett's third. He scored eight first-half points and equaled a career high with a pair of three-pointers in the opening half. He finished with eight points and was 2-for-3 from three-point range.

Southeastern Louisiana was held to 29 percent shooting in the first half. Texas State shot 47 percent in the opening half but turned the ball over 12 times.
