HOUSTON - Texas State's Robert Melin qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regionals in a second event in as many weeks, qualifying for the discus Saturday during the Victor Lopez/Rice Bayou Classic.

Melin finished third overall in the discus Saturday with a mark of 52.54 meters (172-04). Last week the freshman from Bottnaryd, Sweeden, qualified for the regionals with a school-record hammer throw of 58.68 meters. For his performance, Melin was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Week. He is the first Texas State multiple-qualifier for next month's regional to be run at Texas.

Texas State also had several other athletes have repeat regional-qualifying performances.

Britni Lawrence placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters (12-05). Lawrence has a season-high best of 3.81 meters. Kemuel Morales' second-place mark of 17.24 meters (56-06.75) was shy of a season high. Both Lawrence and Morales' performances were regional-qualifying marks.

In the women's 100 meters, Camilla Davis continued to shave time off her previous season mark, placing third in a time of 11.84. Liudmilla Litvinova placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.84 while Courtney Baker was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.12.

Seneca Guenther placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.71 meters (41-08.50) while Ashlea Byrom was third with a throw of 12.60 meters. Also in the field competition, Sarah Stultz finished second in the discus with a throw of 45.36 meters (148-10) and was second in the hammer with a throw of 51.46 meters (168-10).

The Bobcat men also had several strong finishes.

 

 

Dayne Graham placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.79 while Erroll Harris placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.44. Casey Cummings added his performance Saturday to a current tie for fourth in the SLC this season for pole vaulters. His vault of 4.90 meters (16-00.75) was good for second place.

Texas State is back in action at the Texas Relays starting April 5th.
