SAN ANTONIO - Texas State dominated the field events with nine titles and 13 individual first-place finishes overall as the Bobcats competed at the UTSA Relays Friday and Saturday.

San Antonio native Abby Ruston won the shot put with a throw of 16.64 meters, the second-best performance by a Bobcat in the event. Katie Hanie won the discus with a throw of 49.32 meters.

Also in field events, Valerie Hancock won the high jump competition with a mark of 1.60 meters while Janna Evan's pole vault mark of 3.05 meters was also good for first place at the second outdoor meet of the season. Sara Olayiwola won the triple jump with a mark of 11.60 meters.

On the men's side, Robert Melin swept the shot put and discus over the weekend. Melin won the shot put with a mark of 16.24 meters while a discus throw of 51.36 meters was also good for first place.

Casey Cummings and Dmitri Kabakov shared the pole vault title, both clearing 4.75 meters.

The Bobcats also swept the men's hurdles events. Clayton Bynum won the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.37 while Gatis Spunde won the 400m hurdles in a time of 51.85, the sixth-best mark in Texas State history.

Other first-place finishes over the weekend included Eric Shepperd's 1:58.80 time in the 800 meters while Liat Anav won the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.94 .

The Bobcats' 4x100 relay teams also swept first-place finishes. The women's team clocked a time of 46.36 to beat second place UTSA by four tenths of a second. The team consisted of Ashley Austin, Iris Darrington, Camilla Davis and Sonetria Mayfield. The men's team of Adam Higginbotham, Ernest Imade, Aaron Jones and Justin Longoria posted a first-place time of 41.97.

 

 

Darrington placed second in the 100 meter run while Davis was third in the event. Courtney Baker posted a third-place finish in the 400 meters.

Senior Casey DeWitt clocked a 10:28.30 to place second in the 3000 meters and post a top 10 time by a Bobcat in the event. Heather Bullin was third in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:42.70.

Texas State is back in action this weekend at the SFA Dogwood Invitational as well as the Texas Invitational on Saturday.
