HOUSTON - The Texas State women's track and field team finished fifth among a 14-team field while the Bobcat men placed sixth at the Houston Opener indoor meet hosted by the University of Houston on Saturday.

Brooke Hewitt led the 'Cats by winning the women's high jump, clearing a mark of 1.68 meters. Texas State also fared well in the women's triple jump, as Sara Olayiwola placed second and Sonetriya Mayfield took third.

On the men's side, Andy Ysebaert had the highest finish by a Bobcat with a second place finish in the men's shot put at 15.57 meters.

Texas State recorded the highest finish among four Southland Conference teams who participated on the women's side, which also included Lamar, UTSA and Nicholls State. Three SLC men's teams competed, as UTSA finished fourth and Lamar fifth.

Houston won the overall team title for the women while Texas took home the men's crown.
