Basketball Tip-Off Socials Set

Oct. 18, 2006

Bobcat basketball fans in Central Texas will have an opportunity to learn more about the direction of the men's and women's programs as Texas State University plays host to a pair of Basketball Tip-Off Socials next week.

Fans are invited to attend socials at The Gruene Onion Grill in New Braunfels on Oct. 24 and at Johnny Carino's Italian in San Marcos on Oct. 26. Events at both restaurants are set to run from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Texas State women's basketball coach Suzanne Fox and men's basketball coach Doug Davalos will be on hand to talk about Bobcat basketball. Additionally, there will be special give-aways and fans can pick up season ticket information.

The Gruene Onion Grill is located at 1324 East Common Street, just north of Texas Highway 46. The Oct. 26 event at Johnny Carino's in San Marcos on the I-35 access road will be held in conjunction with the David Bailiff Radio Show.

Full-scale basketball practices for both programs began over the weekend at Texas State. Both teams will open their seasons with exhibition games in Strahan Coliseum on Nov 7.

Coming up the week before the teams' exhibitions is Fandemonium. The annual event is slated for 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in Strahan Coliseum.

Fandemonium is free to the public but fans are asked to bring a $1 or $2 donation which will go directly to the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. Again this year, the American Cancer Society has teamed with the National Association of Basketball Coaches for Coaches vs. Cancer.

In addition to the introductions of both the men's and women's teams, Fandemonium will feature Boko, the Texas State Strutters and Cheerleaders, the Spurs Coyote and the Spurs Silver Dancers.
