Four members of The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball program were honored with All-Independent post-season accolades, which were released on Friday (Nov. 17).
Junior Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) was selected as a second team All-Independent team member after she finished the season first in total attacks among All NCAA Division I Independent players, third in kills and seventh in serving aces.
Phillips recorded 10 or more kills in 18 of 29 matches, and 20 or more kills on four occasions. The UTPA junior finished with eight double-doubles (kills-digs) on the season. The junior standout became the fifth player in UTPA history to eclipse the 1,000 career kill mark.
The junior outside hitter finished with 369 kills - averaging 3.55 kills per game and finished with the fifth most attacks in single-season program history.
The Lady Broncs had a trio of players earn honorable mention All-Independent honors in junior Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.), freshman Marci Logan (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe H.S.) and sophomore Rebecca Toddy (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.).
Blakely concluded her third season with the Lady Broncs as she reached one of the biggest milestones in program history as she became the program's all-time leader in career assists. The junior setter finished her third season with 3067 career assists - averaging 9.75 assists per game.
Blakely became the fourth player in program history to average over 9.00 assists per game and only the third player to surpass the 1,000-assists total for a season. Blakely finished with 19 matches of 30 or more assists, 10 matches of 40 or more assists, five matches of 50 or more assists this past season.
In her rookie campaign, Logan finished third in kills and second in total attacks among the Lady Broncs. The outside hitter recorded 12 matches of 10 or more kills - one match of 20 or more kills. Logan recorded 10 or more kills in the final four matches of the season. She finished her first season with 263 total kills - averaging 2.44 kills per game.
Toddy was the Lady Broncs' top defensive players this season after recording a team-high 488 digs in her second season as libero, averaging 4.52 digs per game - which was the sixth highest in single-season program history.
The UTPA sophomore posted 17 matches of 15 or more digs and collected nine matches of 20 or more digs for the Lady Broncs. Toddy collected 10 or more digs in the final 10 games of the season. She finished with a career-high and team-high total in digs and digs per game this past season.
The 2007 NCAA Division I All-Independent Volleyball Team was voted on by head coaches and Sports Information Directors at NCAA Division I Independent institutions.
