The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball program recorded a straight-set victory over Chicago State in its third home game of the season on Saturday (Oct. 27).
The Lady Broncs opened up the first frame with a strong offensive performance with a 30-21 victory followed by a 30-16 triumph in the second set. With the Lady Broncs up in the third and decisive frame, the Valley's program captured a 30-26 victory to notch their second home win of the season.
Marci Logan (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe H.S.) led the Lady Broncs with season high 17 kills to go along with a .400 hitting percentage with five errors in 30 total attacks while contributing with three blocking assists.
Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) recorded 31 assists and eight digs missing her seventh double-double of the season while Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) notched eight kills and five digs to aid the Lady Broncs.
Noelle Mayor (Missouri City, TX/Dulles H.S.) led the Lady Broncs defensively with a match-high 11 digs while Rebecca Toddy (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) added 10 digs.
Jessica Khouri collected 11 kills to go along with six digs while Hanya Minta added 22 assists.
The Lady Broncs improved their overall record to 10-16 on the 2007 campaign while the Cougars dropped to 4-21 in the season standings.
UTPA will be back at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Thursday (Nov. 1) for a match-up against UT-Brownsville at 7 p.m.
