The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to The University of Texas-Arlington on Thursday (Apr. 5) afternoon in Arlington, TX.
The Lady Broncs dropped their overall record to 7-11 on the 2007 campaign and are in the midst of a four-match losing skid while the Mavericks improved their record to 11-2 on the season.
UTPA received its only victory of the day in the number-three doubles' action where Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Salier-Gymnasium Waiblingen) and Megan Bedeau (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/Northview Heights S.S.) handed the team of Sofya Lifanova and Marissa Brown an 8-6 setback.
Monika Peciulionyte and Simri van Rooyen posted an 8-3 victory over Giana Oliveira (Santa Anna, Brazil/Eckerd College) and Stephanie Willerding (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Northview Height S.S.) in the top flight of doubles' action.
The UTPA team of Nicole Garcia (Cibolo, TX/Lee College) and Julia Cirne-Lima (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Eckerd College) fell to the hands of Daniela Novakova and Sara Pesic by a score of 8-4 in the number-two rotation of doubles' competition.
In singles' action, Oliveira fell to Peciulionyte by score of 6-1 and 6-3 in the number-one position of the rotation while Cirne-Lima dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (4-0) decision to Novakova in the number-two spot of the lineup.
Willerding fell to the hands of van Rooyen by scores of 6-2 and 6-2 in the number-three position while Bedeau dropped a three-set match to Lifanova by scores of 1-6, 6-4 and 10-4 at the number-four spot of the lineup.
Buksik dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Brown in the number-five spot of the lineup, and Luisa Cantu (Victoria, Tamps, Mexico/Colegio Jose de Escandon) lost to Pesic by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 at the number-six portion of the rotation.
The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 7) in their season finale against Central Arkansas at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. Match time is set for 10:00 a.m.
