Three student-athletes from the women's basketball program were selected to represent the University of Texas - Pan American on the 2006-07 NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic Basketball Team, which was released on Thursday (Feb. 1).
The Lady Broncs were represented by three student-athletes on the Independent All-Academic Team in juniors Cinthia Ramirez (Guadalajara, Mexico/Nolan Catholic H.S.), Tiona Wilson (Bradenton, FL/Southeast H.S.) and sophomore Rachel Jones (Little Rock, AR/Little Rock Central H.S.).
Ramirez has proven to be a leader both on and off the court as the third-year player makes her second appearance on the Independent All-Academic Team after making her first appearance on the 2005-06 squad. Ramirez led all Lady Bronc players with a 3.314 grade point average as a business administration major.
This marks the first All-Academic selection for both Wilson and Jones. Wilson earned a 3.250 cumulative grade point average majoring in communications while Jones' 3.261 grade point average in finance earned her a spot on the team.
The 2006-07 NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic Women's Basketball Team was based on nominations that were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing and were a starter or key reserve for the team.
