Lady Broncs Fall to IPFW, 66-52

Jan. 22, 2008

The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs suffered their sixth straight loss after they dropped a 66-52 decision against IPFW in Fort Wayne, IN at the Gates Sports Center this evening.

UTPA fell to 8-12 overall while the Mastodons improved to 7-11 on the season with the victory.

Senior guard, LeKeisha Gray collected a game-high 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting, 1-of-8 from three point range, and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, to go along with five rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes of action.

It was anyone's game in the opening minutes, as the Lady Broncs kept things close tying the game six times and seven lead changes.

With nine minutes remaining in the first half, a pair of Gray free throws gave the Lady Broncs a two point advantage but a lay-up by Johnna Lewis-Carlisle tied the game at 11-11.

Gray's first half 10 points would keep the green and orange in striking distance as they headed into the locker rooms at 21-21.

The Lady Broncs finished the first half shooting 27.6 percent compared to the Mastodons 28.6 percent from the field.

The Mastodons opened the second half on a 10-2 run and silenced the Lady Broncs the rest of the way. IPFW led by as many as 11 points, making the score 50-39 with 7:57 remaining in the game.

UTPA was unable to recover since the opening minutes of the second half, as they fell into a 15 point deficit en route to their sixth straight loss.

For the game, the Lady Broncs shot 33.3 percent (18-of-24) to IPFW's 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field.

Tamara Vaughn was the only other Lady Broncs in double-figures collecting 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting, 2-of-6 from behind the arc, 3-of-4 from the line, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the setback.

Johnna Lewis-Carlisle finished with a team-high 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting, 2-of-3 from three-point range, 1-of-1 from the free throw line, to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Lady Broncs three-game road trip continues with a final stop in Newark, NJ for a match-up against New Jersey Institute of Technology (Jan. 28) with game time slated for 6:05 p.m.
