78 Players Sign NFL Contracts
May 9, 2007 EL PASO, Texas-- - Out of the 107-man roster for the inaugural Texas vs. the Nation all-star challenge, 78 players will get a chance to test their abilities in the NFL. As of Monday, May 7, 72% of the roster had officially signed contracts with NFL teams. Twelve players were selected during the draft including five 4th round picks. John Bowie, a cornerback for the Nation squad from the University of Cincinatti, took the highest spot going to the Oakland Raiders at number 11 in the 4th round, the 110th pick overall. Other top draftees included Allen Barbre, an OT/OG from Missouri Southern State, Marcus Thomas, DT from University of Florida, Antwan Barnes, OLB from Florida International, and Joe Cohen, DL from Florida. Another three players were picked up in the sixth round, including SMU's Justin Rogers, Trey Lewis from Washburn, and Justise Hariston of Central Conneticut State. Four players were drafted in the seventh round to finish out the list. Since the draft's conclusion, 66 additional players have signed free agent contracts representing 25 NFL teams.
