Tulane Volleyball Tops Rice, Remains Unbeaten In C-USA

Sept. 29, 2006

Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas - The Tulane Green Wave volleyball team remained undefeated in Conference USA with a 3-1 win (30-26, 30-24, 27-30, 30-19) at Rice Friday night at Autry Court. Tulane improves to 7-5 overall, 3-0 in C-USA. Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Boatwright recorded a season-high nine blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Sara Radosevic recorded another double-double with 17 kills, a career-high 22 digs and three aces. Sophomore outside Bridget Wells added a career-high six blocks to go with 12 kills. Freshman outside hitter Ksenija Vlaskovic added 18 kills.

"This team is figuring out the more they play together, within our system the harder they are to beat," head coach Liz Kritza said. "We've been working on our defensive play, playing a team like Rice would force us to step it up defensively. And we did as team tonight. Sara [Radosevic] had a lot of digs in the back, and Jenn [Miller] had a very good match in terms of digs and passing."

Sophomore setter Luna Rebrovic eeked out freshman setter Rachel Lindelow for the team lead in assists, 26 to 25. Four Tulane student-athletes recorded double digit digs, led by freshman libero Jenn Miller's 26. Lindelow added 11 digs for her second career double-double.

"Every conference match is a tough one," Kritza added. "There's been a number of upsets this season so you have to execute every night, especially on the road."

After 12 ties and seven lead changes, Tulane took control of game one with an 11-5 run for a 30-26 win. In game two, the Wave trailed 16-15 before pulling away via a 10-3 streak. Rice was cooking in game three, taking a 25-19 lead, but Tulane roared back to pull within 27-26. But the Owls finished off game three 30-27 to force a fourth frame. The Green Wave thoroughly dominated game four, jumping out to a 12-3 start and leading by as many as 12.

Rice was led by 15 kills each from Karyn Morgan and Tessa Kuykendall as the Owls fall to 7-10 overall, 0-3 in C-USA.

Tulane was last 3-0 in C-USA in 2003, opening league play 6-0 en route to a 25-7 season.

Tulane's Texas road trip continues at the University of Houston (10-7, 1-1 C-USA) on Sunday Houston at 1 p.m. as Conference USA play rolls on.
