Alison Walshe Named C-USA Women's Golfer Of The Week
March 23, 2005 NEW ORLEANS, La. - Fresh off a third-place showing at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic last weekend in Baton Rouge, La., Tulane University women's golf standout Alison Walshe was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. A sophomore from Westford, Mass., Walshe earned the weekly honor after posting a one-under par 171 at par-72, 6,276-yard University Club. Walshe, who transferred to Tulane this season after a year at Boston College, tied her career-best with a 69 in the first round of the weekend tournament, which is tied for fourth in Tulane history. Walshe's score helped lead the Green Wave to a second-place finish at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, which came in 17 strokes behind host LSU and 12 better than third-placed North Carolina State. For the season, Walshe leads the team with a 73.47 stroke-per-18 average. She has four Top Five finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, and is currently ranked 14th among NCAA Division I women's golfers by Golfweek Magazine and 15th in the nation by GolfStat.com. Walshe and the Green Wave return to action on Friday, March 25, when Tulane travels to Athens, Ga., to participate in the Liz Murphy Collegiate.
