Dec. 9, 2000

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, as the Green Wave travel to take on No. 14 LSU in Baton Rouge.

The game will be Tulane's third straight, and fourth of the year, against a team that reached the 2000 NCAA Tournament and its sixth overall against a team that participated in postseason play of any sort a year ago. The game will also be Tulane's fourth road game in its last five outings.

The Green Wave enter the contest with a 4-4 overall record after posting a 75-66 win over SMU on Wednesday. Senior All-American Janell Burse led the Wave with 23 points and 11 rebounds against the Mustangs, while Gwen Slaughter had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Oddly enough, LSU's last game was also against SMU, as the Lady Tigers were 83-62 winners on Nov. 28. The Lady Tigers enter the game with a 3-3 record, but all three losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents - No. 5 Duke, No. 16 Southwest Missouri State and No. 9 Penn State.

LSU holds a 20-3 edge in the all-time series, but each of the Wave's three victories have come in the last six seasons. In fact, since Lisa Stockton took over as the Green Wave head coach, the series is tied at three wins apiece. Tulane has actually won two of the last three meetings against LSU, but has not won in Baton Rouge since the 1994-95 season.

Last season, Tulane, then ranked 24th, posted a 76-72 win over No. 11 LSU in Fogelman Arena. Former Wave All-American Grace Daley led the Wave with 31 points and nine rebounds in that contest.

Sunday's game can be heard on the radio in the New Orleans area on WRBH, which is located at 88.3 on the FM dial. The game can also be heard via Tulane's internet site at www.TulaneGreenWave.com.

Following Sunday's game, the Green Wave take an 11-day break for semester exams before returning to action on Dec. 21, against Boston University in Fogelman Arena.
