Stockton to Speak at State Farm Tip-Off Classic Banquet

Nov. 10, 2005

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tulane University women's basketball coach Lisa Stockton has been selected as the featured speaker at the 2005 State Farm Tip-Off Classic Banquet on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Lubbock, Texas. The Tip-Off Classic, one of the premier preseason women's basketball tournaments, serves as a platform for the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame to announce a new class of inductees.

Stockton will address the crowd comprised of student-athletes from the four competing teams (Texas Tech, LSU, Baylor and Georgia), as well as officials from the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (WBHOF) and State Farm in the tournament kick-off at Cagle Steakhouse.

"When we were discussing possible banquet speakers we chose Lisa Stockton, because she and her team have had such an incredible experience," Nan Elrod of the WBHOF said. "When we talked to State Farm, they were very enthusiastic about having her as our speaker and wanted to go in this direction. She will be great, and the kids will enjoy hearing from someone like Lisa with a real-life story."

Past banquet speakers have included WNBA coach Van Chancellor, ESPN analyst Nancy Leiberman and Hall of Famer Patsy Neal.

"It is an honor to be selected to speak at State Farm Tip-Off Classic Banquet," Stockton said. "I plan on sharing our experiences over the past few months, and how we can take the things that come out of those experiences and turn them in to life lessons."

Stockton and her team have been stationed in Lubbock, Texas, on the campus of Texas Tech University since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans in late August. The Green Wave plan to return to New Orleans on Dec. 15 after playing the first month of the season on the road, with a home opener slated for Dec. 18 in Fogelman Arena.
