Langford's Log: Wave Keep Rolling

Langford's Log Home Page

Feb. 1, 2007

This weekend was great for the Tulane Women's Basketball squad. We beat University of Southern Mississippi and University of Central Florida. Before the USM game, we joked about the fact that there were seemingly more USM fans in the gym, but concluded that that was not true it just looked that way because of their bright colors (yellow and black).

After each win, Tess, who is Dr. Stewart's daughter comes into the locker room and says her famous quote "another one bites the dust," which is now part of tradition. Recently we have adopted another tradition that is credited to Jennifer Sands. This tradition is quite simple: Jennifer turns on our "crunk (hype)" CD and we all dance, as if the locker room was the club. I think the best dancer award has to go to.....Megan Valicevic!

Due to our convincing wins this past weekend, we received four votes for the AP Top 25 Poll. After we received national recognition a news team and a Times Picayune reporter showed up at practice on Tuesday. Although we are grateful for this recognition we as a team realize that our goal has not been accomplished yet and that we cannot stop working hard or lessen our intensity. Coach Stockton preached to us before practice on Tuesday that many teams will bring their "A" game when they play us and that we cannot afford to succumb to the pressure.

This week we play Houston and Rice which are two very good, but different teams. Both games are on the road, which is going to be a great test of our maturity. Houston is a very athletic team, who is capable of anything on any given night and Rice beat us earlier this year, so we are hoping to get even. Although we are on the road, two of my teammates will be right at home; Megan Valicevic and Tia Jackson are Houston natives, so this will be a nice homecoming for them.

Green Wave fans, if you are in the Houston area come out and support us this Thursday at University of Houston or Saturday at Rice University. If you cannot make the games, we know you will be cheering from home!
