NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's basketball team used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to post an 81-69 win over Alabama at Fogelman Arena on Thursday.

The win improved Tulane to 4-0 to start the season, while Alabama (5-2) suffered its largest non-conference road loss since a 72-56 defeat at the hands of Louisiana Tech in 1995.

All-American Grace Daley led the Green Wave attack with 27 points, while Janell Burse and Britt Themann each added 12 points and eight rebounds for Tulane.

Alabama opened the scoring and led 4-2 just 90 seconds into the contest, but the Green Wave's halfcourt trapping defense led to six Alabama turnovers and eight Tulane lay-ups as part of a 22-5 burst for a 24-9 lead with 10:59 remaining in the half. The Wave would push its lead to as many as 26 points, leading 45-19 with 3:02 left in the half, before taking a 22-point margin, 49-27, into the halftime break.

In the second half, Alabama turned up the intensity, using a 14-4 burst to cut the Wave advantage to just 12 at the 15:30 mark. The Tide pulled to within 10 on three different occasions, but each time the Green Wave answered the challenge. Leading 64-54 with 7:11 remaining, Tulane sealed the win with an 11-0 run over a three minute span, taking a 75-54 lead at the 4:44 mark.

Tulane connected on 46.7 percent of its shots (28-of-60), marking the fourth straight game that the Wave has shot over 45.0 percent from the floor. Sarah Goree recorded six of the Wave's 22 assists, while Fabrecia Roberson added five assists and a game and career-high six steals. In addition to her fourth-straight double-figure scoring game, Burse added four blocked shots for the second time this season.

The Green Wave have only a short break before returning to action on Saturday, playing host to Georgetown at Fogelman Arena. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
