Henry Scores Career High Against Memphis

Jan. 31, 2004

NEW ORLEANS, La. - -

CMemphis 76, Tulane 64 - Final Box Score

Sophomore D'Aundra Henry scored a career-high 17 points, but it was not enough for the Tulane women's basketball team, as Memphis posted a 76-64 win over the Green Wave at Fogelman Arena on Saturday.

Memphis won for the third straight game to improve to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in league action. Tulane lost its sixth straight and is now 7-12 overall and 0-6 in league action.

The Tigers jumped out to a 39-31 lead at halftime thanks to a hot-shooting first half that saw them connect on 65.4 percent of their shots (17-of-26). The teams traded baskets early in the opening half, with Memphis building an 11-4 lead only to see Tulane answer with a 10-2 burst to claim a 14-13 advantage at the 13:40 mark. However, Memphis answered with a jumper from Princess Swilley and the Tigers would never trail again. Memphis led 24-23 at the 7:37 mark, but out-scored the Green Wave 15-8 the rest of the way to take an eight-point lead into the break.

Memphis scored the first basket of the second half, a three-pointer to take an 11-point lead, but the Wave rallied to trim the margin to just six. However, Memphis slowly increased its lead, pushing the advantage to as many as 16 at the 3:56 mark. Tulane cut that deficit in half, but the Tigers hit 15-of-19 free throws in the second stanza to hold off the Wave.

Henry scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, chipping in 17 points, four assists and four steals. Lakethia Hampton added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Victoria Crawford led Memphis with 17 points, while Raven Rogers added 16 and 13 rebounds. Each team pulled down 30 rebounds, though Tulane had a 13-4 edge in offensive boards.

Tulane returns to action on Monday, as the Green Wave play host to league foe Saint Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fogelman Arena.
