NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Sophomore guard Delacey Joseph hit a shot with 5.2 seconds to play to lift the Tulane women's basketball team to a 60-58 win over Conference USA rival UAB at Fogelman Arena on Friday night.

Joseph's shot was the second game-winner in four league contests as Tulane outscored the Blazers 31-19 over the final 5:39 of the contest. With the win, Tulane improves to 15-4 on the year and 3-1 in C-USA play. UAB, meanwhile, falls to 8-9 overall and 0-4 in league action.

While it was Joseph who hit the game winner, the night belonged to reserve guard Britt Themann, who came off the bench to tie for game-high scoring honors with 16, including five 3-point baskets, and finished second on the squad with six rebounds. Junior center Teana McKiver also finished in double digits with 11 points and paced the Green Wave with seven boards.

""I think our full-cout pressure was a major key for us and when we started hitting those threes, that changed the look of the game and it changed the momentum of the game," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "This was UAB's first game with a three-post lineup, so a lot of our preparation changed. They did a nice job rebounding, and that kept them in the game."

With Tulane trailing 39-29 with 15:41 to play, Themann came in and drilled a 3-pointer and had a steal which led to a basket to help the Green Wave cut the lead to five. After a free throw and a basket by the Blazers, Tulane cut the lead to one on a layup by senior guard Solome Hector.

A basket by UAB's Vanessa White made it a three-point game again, but Theeman and sophomore guard Kelly Nadeau hit back-to-back treys to give the Green Wave their first lead since the 9:02 mark in the first half. The teams traded baskets over the next three minutes and with the score knotted at 47-47, the Green Wave went on a 7-2 run to take a 54-49 lead with 3:40 left to go.

UAB would not go away, however, cutting the lead to one on a pair of occasions and taking a 56-55 lead with 1:03 to play. Themann answered with her fifth 3-pointer of the night to give the Green Wave a two-point lead and UAB's Michelle Smith tied things up one possession later with a layup before Joseph's game-winner.

It appeared to be all Tulane early on as the Green Wave raced out to a 16-6 lead early on. But UAB chipped away at the lead, and the Blazers took their first lead of the outing 8:03 to play in the first half. The UAB lead would swell to as many as 10 before the Tulane offense awoke for the Green Wave's come-from-behind victory.

UAB's Natasha Thomas tied Themann for top scoring honors with 16 and led all players with 10 rebounds.

The Green Wave returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 20 when they take on league foe South Florida at 2 p.m.
