Answers From The Island: Day Two

Dec. 21, 2002

HONOLULU, Hawaii - In the Green Wave's second day in Hawaii, the Tulane football team visited the Pearl Harbor Museum in the afternoon before touring the Battleship Missouri, where the Japanese surrendered to the U.S. to end World War II, before wrapping up the afternoon with dinner on the deck of the ship.

In the second of a week-long series of "Answers From The Island", Green Wave players share their thoughts on today's question:

Based on what you saw today, what had the biggest impact on you?

You read all the history books about Pearl Harbor, and seeing what actually happened was amazing. It was also interesting to see the ship itself out in the water.-Robert Hand

I think seeing the wreckage and the fact that it is still there for everyone to see is something I'll never forget. It's not just a memory. It's a was a case of knowing, feeling and seeing.-Jimmy Kosienski

Simply being in the same place where all those people lost their lives on that horrible tragedy sent a chill through my body. I think we all learned a lot from visiting the memorial.-Demarcus Davis

Knowing the history of what happened here and seeing it in real life was impressive. That and the tour of the Missouri was real special.-Kenan Blackmon

The whole thing was interesting. Seeing the Arizona out in the water made you think about all the people who gave their lives for their country. It's not only a memorial but also a grave.-Adrian Mitchell

It was great trip for us and interesting to see all of it. Pearl Harbor was all surreal and the visit to the Missouri was fun.--Terry Woo
