Mewelde Moore Tallies Yet Another Record
Nov. 10, 2002 FORT WORTH, Texas - Mewelde Moore tallied his 17th Tulane University record on Saturday, as he broke the all-time mark for all-purpose yards in the Green Wave's 17-10 loss to TCU on Saturday at Amon Carter Stadium. Moore entered the game with exactly 4,600 career all-purpose yards. He trailed all-time leader Michael Pierce (1987-89) by 27 yards. In his three-year career, Pierce recorded 684 rushing yards, 1,373 receiving yards and 2,570 yards on kickoff returns for a total of 4,627. Tulane's star running back, Moore has snagged the school's all-time rushing record on Oct. 26 against Navy for his 16th school record. Despite needing just 28 yards (he entered Saturday's game averaging 148.4 all-purpose yards per game in his career), the record was not a foregone conclusion. TCU's defense was among the best in the country, entering the game holding opponents to just 263.5 total yards per game (fourth in the nation) and a miniscule 69.9 rushing yards per game (third in the nation). As expected, the Horned Frog defense held strong through the first half, with Tulane struggling for every yard. However, in the third quarter, senior quarterback Derrick Joseph found Moore streaking down the right sideline and connected with the Baton Rouge native, who beat his defender and found the endzone for a 47-yard touchdown, breaking Pierce's record, and pulling the Wave within seven at 17-10. Moore finished the game with 4,681 all-purpose yards. The following is a list of the 17 school records held by the amazing junior:
