NEW ORLEANS - Tulane sophomore defensive tackle Roxie Shelvin has been named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking Louisiana-Lafayette's last PAT attempt of the game to give Tulane a 38-37 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette Saturday.

A sophomore from Franklin, La., Shelvin got his hand on Brent Bergeron's PAT attempt after the Cajuns had scored with 3:44 left in the game. Following Shelvin's block, Tulane was able to hang on to record its third straight victory of the season, improving its record to 3-2 on the year.

In addition to the blocked PAT, Shelvin made seven tackles, five solo, and was credited with one tackle for loss. His block was Tulane's second blocked kick of the game, but the first of Shelvin's career.

Shelvin's selection marks the third straight week a Tulane player has received C-USA Player of the Week honors. Quarterback Patrick Ramsey (offensive) and punter Casey Roussel (co-special teams) earned recognition following the Green Wave's win over SMU, while freshman Mewelde Moore picked up the Offensive Player honor last week.

Tulane takes on No. 16 Southern Miss Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Superdome. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.
