Men's Basketball Places Two on All-Louisiana Teams
April 5, 2003 NEW ORLEANS, La. - Waitari Marsh and Brandon Brown from Tulane University have both been selected to the All-Louisiana Men's Basketball teams, it was announced on Saturday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Voting was done by a Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of media members and sports information personnel from basketball-playing institutions around the state. Marsh, who earned all-state second team honors, was Tulane's leading scorer overall and in league play (15.9 ppg). He led the Green Wave in scoring 10 times, assists 12 times and rebounding four times, while tallying 20 double-figure scoring games and four 20-point games. The senior became just the second player in school history to record 1,000 points, 400 assists and 400 rebounds. He finished his career second all-time in assists and sixth in steals at Tulane. Brown, meanwhile, collects all-state honors for the second year in a row, as he was selected to the third team. The Houma, La., native led Tulane in points (418), rebounding and minutes (1,045), while ranking second on the team in scoring, field-goal percentage, free throws, steals and blocks. Brown scored in double figures 25 times, while leading the team in scoring 10 times and rebounding 19 times. He is just the second player in school history to record three season with 1,000 minutes played and finished his career ranked 16th all-time in scoring at Tulane (1,216 points). LSU's Ronald Dupree was named the Louisiana Player of the Year, as well as a first-team selection. Joining him on the first team were Antonio Meeking of Louisiana Tech, Hector Romero from New Orleans, Louisiana-Lafayette's Brad Boyd and Grambling's Paul Haynes. Tulane posted a 16-15 record in 2002-03, defeating Houston in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament before falling to eventual champion Louisville on its home court. The Green Wave graduates five players from this year's team, but its recruiting class for next season has been ranked as high as No. 29 in the country. |
