Tulane's Gomez Earns Conference USA Third Team Honors

March 5, 2007

New Orleans - Tulane junior forward David Gomez has been named to the Conference USA all-conference third team, as voted by the league's 12 head coaches and selected media. He is a first time performer to the league's all-conference team.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Gomez has led Tulane to its best overall record (16-12) in four years and to the most conference wins in nine years (9-7). Behind his steady play, the Green Wave earned a fourth-place seeding and first round bye in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament after being selected to finish ninth in the preseason coaches poll.

This season, Gomez has led TU in scoring (14.0), rebounding (6.0), field goals (143), field goals attempts (267), free throws (105), free throw attempts (134) and is second in blocks (38). He has finished in double figure scoring 21 times and has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in five games. Gomez has three double-doubles and has reached the 30-point plateau twice this season, including a career-best 32 points at cross-town rival New Orleans and 31 points on the road at TCU.

Gomez's numbers rank him 12th among the league's players in scoring, 10th in rebounds, fifth for field goal percentage, sixth for free throw percentage, eighth for blocked shots and fifth for defensive rebounds (4.5).

He is the second straight Green Wave player to earn all-conference third team honors in as many seasons, as former TU standout Quincy Davis (2003-06) picked up third team honors a year ago. Gomez becomes the sixth Tulane player to receive all-C-USA honors since the Wave became a league member in 1995-96.
