Tulane's David Gomez Named to NABC All-District Team
March 1, 2007 New Orleans - Tulane junior David Gomez has been selected to the 2007 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 8 second team, as it was announced today by the NABC. Gomez, a 6'8" forward from Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, La., is a first-time member to the all-district team, and joins fellow Conference USA players Chris Douglas-Roberts (Memphis), Morris Almond (Rice) and Jeremy Hunt (Memphis) on the various all-district teams. Douglas-Roberts and Almond were named to the first team, while Hunt joins Gomez on the second squad. This season, Gomez has led the Green Wave to a 15-12 overall record and an 8-7 mark in C-USA play. More importantly, he has helped Tulane to its first winning season in four years. Gomez leads the Wave in scoring (14.0), rebounds (6.1), field goals (137) and free throws (103), and has reached double figure scoring 20 times, including a career-high 32 points at cross-town rival New Orleans. He has notched three double-doubles this season and currently ranks sixth in C-USA for field goal percentage (.535) and free throws percentage (.780), and is seventh in rebounds and blocked shots. Gomez is the first Tulane player to receive NABC All-District honors since 2003 when Brandon Brown (2000-03) was also selected as a second team performer.
