Brandon Brown Earns All-District Honors
Feb. 19, 2003 NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane senior Brandon Brown has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 8 Second Team, the organization announced on Wednesday. Brown, a first team selection last year, is averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game for the Green Wave, which has won six of its last eight games to improve to 13-11 on the season. The 6-8 senior from Houma is also shooting 50.4 percent from the field with a career-high 61 assists and 31 steals. He has led the Wave in scoring nine times and rebounding 13 times. He scored 13 points on Tuesday night to help his team to a victory over South Florida and he registered a season-high 28 points on Saturday in Tulane's victory over TCU. This marks the third consecutive year that Tulane has had a player honored by the NABC; its best stretch since having an all-district player each year from 1950 to 1955. In addition to Brown this year and last, Ledaryl Billingsley was a second team honoree in 2001. Other Conference USA players honored by the NABC included Reece Gaines (Louisville, District 7, First Team), Chris Massie (Memphis, District 7, Second Team), Marvin Stones (Louisville, District 7, Second Team), Louis Truscott (Houston, District 9, Second Team), Leonard Stokes (Cincinnati, District 10, Second Team) and Dwyane Wade (Marquette, District 11, First Team). Tulane is back in action this weekend, playing at Southern Miss at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Wave returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to host the University of Houston at 7 p.m. For tickets, call 504-861-WAVE. |
