Tulane Men's Hoops Returns to C-USA Action at East Carolina this Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS -The Tulane Green Wave will look pick up its first Conference USA win of the year when it treks to Greenville, N.C., this Wednesday to take on East Carolina at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. CST. Tulane (7-7, 0-2 C-USA) and East Carolina are each winless in league play through two games this season and one team will pick up their first C-USA win of the season and have a leg up in the conference standings. The Green Wave is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league games on the road this season. Tulane fell in overtime, 75-70, in its last conference road game at Rice last Wednesday. The Wave's last league road win came last season at East Carolina on Feb. 25, 2006, 66-53. For the year, Tulane is averaging 66.6 points and 37.8 rebounds per game and is shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 32.2 percent from behind the three-point line and 63.3 percent from the free-throw line. Junior David Gomez and freshman Kevin Sims are TU's top scorers with 14.9 and 10.3 points per game, respectively, while Gomez is also the leading rebounder with 6.4 boards per contest. Senior Andrew Garcia leads the team in assists with 3.9 per game. East Carolina (5-10, 0-2 C-USA) opened the season with a 4-1 record, but enters its match-up against Tulane stuck in a two-game skid and has lost nine out of its last 10 games. ECU's last win was against Chowan on Jan. 6, 68-50.
The Pirates are 0-2 in league play this season and has lost its last five Conference-USA games dating back to last season. ECU is 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play at home this season. Darrell Jenkins is one of two players averaging double figure scoring with 12.5 points per game and leads the team in assists with 5.5 per contest. Courtney Captain is the other Pirate averaging double figures with 10.4 points per outing. Gabe Blair leads ECU is rebounding with 8.3 boards per clip. East Carolina is averaging 62.1 points and 36.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from behind the three-point line and 56.7 percent from the foul line. Wednesday's game marks the fifth all-time meeting between Tulane and East Carolina, and the Green Wave leads the overall series, 3-1. TU has won the last two meetings, including a 66-53 victory last season in Greenville, N.C. Tulane has an overall record of 1-1 on the road against the Pirates. ECU's last win in the series came at home on Feb. 18, 2004, 76-66. |
