DURHAM, N.C. - Tulane's Solomon Kandie equaled the school's best-ever finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase late Friday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Kandie finished third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:42.07. His time was just over three seconds slower than the event winner, Tim Broe of the University of Alabama, who posted a time of 8:39.03. Kandie's finish equals the best-ever for a Tulane student-athlete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Hanne Lyngstad finished third in last year's women's 1,500 meter run.

As for Lyngstad, one of the most decorated athletes in Tulane history, she finished ninth in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:21.01. Susan Taylor of BYU won the event with a clocking of 4:13.03. Lyngstad closes her Tulane track and field career having earned All-America honors six times in her career.

One other Green Wave track team member is still active as of Saturday evening. Junior Cecilie Rise is competing in the women's triple jump, but the event has been delayed by severe weather in the Durham area.

The 2000 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships are being held at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C. The event is hosted by Duke University and runs through Saturday.
