AMES, Iowa - A match of two teams in a different place was a much sweeter outcome as the Red Raiders won 3-2 (17-30, 30-21, 30-25, 17-30, 15-13) over the Iowa State Cyclones in front of a harsh crowd tonight at the Hilton Coliseum The team fell earlier this season 3-0 to the Cyclones but walked away with a victory tonight.

The teams kicked off the match trading points until Iowa State got a two-point lead over the Red Raiders at 7-5. Tech evened the score at 9-9 off a kill by Jessica Watson, but Iowa State took a lead to 14-10 with five straight points.

The Cyclones edged its lead to 22-14 carrying the momentum into a 6-0 run to win the match 30-17. Tech came back from 3-1 to hold a 6-5 lead off a kill by Pursley. Pursley had 14 kills with 18 digs on the night. The Cyclones evened the score at 7-7 but two points by Kiley Lyons, including an ace and kill, brought the score to 9-7. A kill by Laura Grote gave Tech its biggest lead of the match at 21-14. Grote finished the match with two assisted blocks, 48 assists and 18 digs, for her 11th double double of the season. Tech went on a 9-0 run bringing the score to 25-15. Two kills by Angela Mooney sealed the win at 30-21. Mooney had six kills on the night with on block.
 

 

Once again the teams started off swapping lead until the game was tied up at four. A kill off Johnson brought the score to 7-5, Tech. A block by Watson followed by an ISU error continued Tech's 7-0 run, leaving the score at 11-6. An ace by Johnson brought the score to 19-12 but the Cyclones battled back to 27-24. A kill by Watson sealed the Tech win at 30-25. Watson finished the match, hitting a team high .500 with 11 kills and three assisted blocks.

The Cyclones started game four explosive, holding the Raiders to four points while tallying 15 of their own. A kill by Lyons stopped the run with Lyons finishing the night with nine kills, nine digs and two aces. Tech scored two consecutive points bringing the score to 20-10, Iowa State. Three kills off Johnson cut the lead to 22-13 but the Cyclones held the lead to win the game at 30-17. Johnson had a team high 16 kills and 20 digs.

Iowa State started out on a 5-1 run in game five with a kill by Johnson. A dig by Jessy Herrera kept the ball alive bringing the score to a Cyclone 6-3 lead. Herrera finished the night with 19 digs. Tech scored five straight points to tie up the game at 10 all. Three Red Raider kills broke the tie giving the team a 13-12 advantage and a block by the team sealed the win at 15-13.

Tech (11-14, 3-13) will host the No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies Saturday in Lubbock, Texas at the United Spirit Arena.
