Women's Soccer Drops Towson in First Round of Maryland Tourney September 12, 1998
COLLEGE PARK, MD.- Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Hamm scored two goals and senior midfielder Amy Rutstein scored one goal and added two assists to lead Texas Tech to a 3-0 victory over Towson University in the first game of the Maryland/Puma Invitational at Ludwig Field this afternoon.
Texas Tech improves to 1-1-0 with the victory while Towson falls to 1-2-1.
Rutstein scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 42:05 mark of the first half. Junior forward Kristy Frantz, who took the corner kick to begin the play, was credited with her second assist of the season. The goal was Rutsteinis first of the season.
Hamm scored two second half goals to give the Red Raiders their three-goal margin of victory. Her first of the game came at the 52:33 mark and her second at the 58:23. Hamm now has two goals on the season.
Sophomore goalie Tina Steck recorded six saves for Towson while freshman Brittany Peese was credited with five for the game.
Texas Tech will face Maryland at 11 a.m. Sunday while Towson will play Southern California at 1 p.m. in the second round of the tournament.
